Job summary

NUH, formed by the merger of Queens Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital in 2006, is a major NHS Trust providing acute and specialist healthcare services to the region. Its Clinical Engineering Department, part of the wider Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering service, is one of the largest in the country, offering a diverse range of medical device related services both to the Trust and external customers. It has collaborative links within the medical device industry, with academia and with other healthcare providers. The department is actively involved in clinical research, medical device development, technology transfer and specialist consultancy - as well as providing the comprehensive medical technology management, training and safety management services fundamental to the delivery of healthcare by the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Engineering department seeks to appoint a Consultant Clinical Engineer within its Medical Devices Specialist Services section, to be a source of expert consultancy for the Trust in the fields of medical devices applications, research, management, safety, and related regulatory matters. The post-holder will also act as medical engineering lead with management responsibility for the department's Medical Devices Advisory Unit (MDAU) and its Medical Engineering & Instrumentation Unit (MEIU). MDAU is a multi-specialist team of engineers, providing expert services to the department, the wider Trust and beyond. MEIU provides manufacturing and metrology services, its principal function being the development and low-volume production of novel medical devices to address unmet clinical needs - these products conforming to the regulatory requirements both for in-house use and for supply to other external organisations.
