Nottingham Children's Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic General Paediatric Consultant with expertise in metabolic medicine (or evidence of an ability to develop this expertise) to help us deliver high quality medical care to the children of Nottingham. Children's services in Nottingham are united at the Nottingham Children's Hospital at Queens Medical Centre campus, co-located with the medical school and university.
General paediatrics is a dynamic, well supported and highly regarded service supporting the local population. You will join an experienced and supportive team of consultants at the Nottingham Childrens Hospital.
This exciting post also includes working within a regional metabolic network (4.5PAs) to support these patients locally.
All consultants are appointed as Clinical Teachers by Nottingham University.
Applicants must be on the GMC specialist register, or within 6 months of their expected date of CCT at time of interview.
The service will deliver care to the paediatric metabolic patients in Nottingham and work closely with the team in Leicester to provide a regional service. Service development will be a key area in this post.
We host the regional trauma centre and all major tertiary paediatric specialities (including Tier 3 obesity services), with the exception of paediatric cardiac surgery.

Main duties of the job
- Provide general paediatric assessment, diagnosis and management to the population of children and young people served by Nottingham Children's Hospital. This will be from the Emergency Department, through the wards to outpatients as required.
- Provide support for the paediatric metabolic patients including collaboration with the MDT and leading on inpatient and outpatient care alongside the current consultant.
- Contribute to the rota for vetting new referrals from GPs to the paediatric medical services.
- Contribute to the advice and guidance rota for primary care (1 week in 4).
- Contribute to the weekend rota for sudden unexpected deaths in Nottingham.
- Contribute to the general paediatric on call rota, offering high quality general paediatric care to the children of Nottingham.
