Job summary

Applications are invited from a committed and enthusiastic doctor to work as a Clinical fellow in Gynaecological Oncology for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Nottingham Gynaecological Oncology Cancer Centre provides tertiary cover for Lincolnshire and Mansfield. There are combined outreach oncology clinics at these units which are supported by the Nottingham cancer centre. Patients from the various units (Mansfield, Lincoln and Boston), with high risk endometrial cancer, raised RMI or confirmed ovarian cancers, vulval and cervical cancers are usually operated on at the Cancer Centre and subsequently followed up in the Units.

Main duties of the job

The following draft Job Plan reflects our best assessment of what the final plan will be.

This will include:

  1. Operating every week (including robotics and ultra-radical surgery)
  2. One Gynaecological Oncology clinic weekly
  3. Weekly MDT prep, presenting and post MDT work
  4. One pre-op session week
  5. Gynae-oncology ward rounds
  6. Dedicated research time
  7. One clinical day per week in general obs and gynae

About us

The team is very well supported by 2 clinical oncologists and 1 Medical Oncologist who deliver chemotherapy and radiotherapy services. There is a new state-of-the-art Radiotherapy suite on site. The team of oncologists are Dr Anjana Anand, Dr Santhanam Sundar, Dr Shaymaa Hosni and Dr Mahgoub. We are a large Cancer Centre that caters for the population of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire with population estimate of 2 million and over 400 new gynaecological cancer cases every year. With a dedicated team of research staff including research nurse specialists, we are one of the biggest recruiters in the UK to both surgical and clinical trials. We currently perform a wide range of Gynaecological Oncology surgeries that include minimally invasive surgery for endometrial and cervical cancers with a new 3D high definition camera for laparoscopic approach, robotic assisted surgery, ICG sentinel service and maximal effort ovarian cancer debulking surgery (ultra-radical debulking) with excellent ITU support. We were one of the biggest recruiters to the GROINNS and the UKCTOCS trials. The Trust has a da Vinci Robot systems X And Xi which is currently been used by different specialties including the Urologists, Colorectal, Thoracic and Gynaecological Oncology. The trust has invested in the new generation Xi dual console robots in 2019 that will potentially increase usage availability to all specialties and possible opportunities for training.
