Job summary
As we continue to "think differently" here at Cellular Pathology NUH, we are now looking for an experienced, competent and versatile AFC Band 7 Advanced BMS who will have a focus on departmental training and continual improvement initiatives. NUH have an ambition to achieve the new targets set out by NHSE in July 2023. This starts with training and development underpinning the "People First" strategy at NUH.
As a service, we firmly believe that continual improvement needs to be embedded within the culture of the department, with delegated individuals having the time to ensure project success. The successful candidate will join the Quality, Training and Continual Improvement Team for service who strive to provide the highest level of support to the operational team within Cellular Pathology.

Main duties of the job
NUH Cellular Pathology are keen to be adaptive and at the forefront of emerging trends within the diagnostic landscape. We are looking for an enthusiastic member of staff to join our forward thinking senior leadership team bringing with them excellent leadership skills and a passion for training and continual improvement.
Your role will be crucial to developing and nurturing the technical staff within NUH Cellular Pathology. You will be dynamic and adaptive with your thought processes and look to continually improve the training opportunities within the department.
Your role will see you take lead on internal projects under the guidance of the Continual Improvement & Strategy Manager. There is an expectation that you can demonstrate your commitment and change focussed attitude to influence a positive culture of improvement across the department.
As a member of the senior leadership team you have awareness of the wider competing issues for service, manage expectations and will have the ability to deputise, where appropriate for the Senior Management Team.
You will be an excellent communicator, a problem solver, able to influence and build advocacy across the service and in the wider NUH community/network.
Your role will have aspects of team leadership and quality management, staff training, mentoring and troubleshooting.
Continuing education is encouraged and we actively support CPD.
About us
Cellular pathology services are split across 2 campuses (QMC and NCH), we process in excess of 76000 cases, 7000 non- gynae cytology and 2000 Post mortem cases per annum.
The department is approved for training by the IBMS/HCPC and is UKAS accredited.
NUH Cellular Pathology has been widely recognised as a leader in digital pathology implementation and received national acknowledgement for progress against the new NHSE TAT targets through application of LEAN laboratory workflow methodology.
Working hours are 37.5 hours Monday to Saturday within 7.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. The post holder will be expected to work 5 days a week covering a Monday to Saturday service on a rotational basis. You will be required to work in the Histopathology laboratories on both QMC and City Hospital NUH Campuses.Informal visits to the department are strongly encouraged.
