Job Overview
Due to expanding roles within our team an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated pharmacy technician to join our well-respected Adult Critical Care and Theatres pharmacy team.
The successful candidate will become an integral member of our friendly, multi-disciplinary team, providing invaluable support to both specialist pharmacists and medicines management assistants, helping to optimise medications management within these areas.
The role will predominately support care for the patients on the Critical Care Units and the Enhanced Peri-Op Care (EPOC) Units cross-campus. EPOC is a new initiative to help support the back log of surgery for higher- risk patients.
It will also provide support for the theatre technicians during periods of annual leave and sickness.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for an ambitious clinical technician to enhance patient care and develop their own skills in these dynamic and fast paced areas.
Main duties of the job
- Taking accurate and comprehensive drug histories for patients within the Critical Care and post-operative setting.
- Communicating effectively, clearly and concisely complex or sensitive information to a wide range of staff, healthcare professionals and patients where there may be barriers to communication
- Checking patients own medicines for suitability for use on admission and at discharge
- Ensuring the timely supply of individual patient's medication.
- Liaising with the pharmacy procurement team, to support the management of drug supply issues/ national shortages relevant to critical care , EPOC and theatres.
- Overseeing the management of the automated medicines storage cabinets (currently Omnicell) by Medicines Management Assistants (MMAs).
- Supporting the review and updating of standard operating procedures for Omnicell.
- Ensuring the patient level data for high cost 'out of tariff' drugs stocked in critical care are accurate and cross-charged back to pharmacy to enable the funding to be recouped back to the Trust.
- To line manage Critical care MMA's and support their development whilst undertaking NVQ 2 and 3 level courses .
The post holder will be expected to work at Queens Medical Centre, City Campus and Nottingham Treatment Centre.
