Job summary
Nottingham University Hospitals Department of Neurology is looking to appoint a substantive Consultant Neurologist with a special interest in Movement Disorders to join Regional Neuroscience team in order to support an expansion of the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) service. The post holder will also support general and acute neurology in the Trust.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to spend 40 - 50% of their DCC time involved in all aspects of movement disorders which will include DBS and general movement disorders, but may also include other sub-specialty aspects of movement disorders including Duodopa, Huntington's disease, tic disorders, normal pressure hydrocephalus or botulinum toxin, depending on the interests of the successful applicant.
They will also participate in departmental teaching and governance. The person appointed will take an equal share in providing emergency cover and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the department.
As a large and ambitious teaching hospital, there is an expectation that appointments should in time take on teaching roles as well as additional leadership roles as will be required to share the clinical leadership responsibilities of the department.
Main duties of the job
The post will join the established movement disorders team and will work alongside medical and nursing colleagues to deliver, sustain and develop regional and local movement disorder activities. There is a degree of flexibility in the sub-specially aspects. DBS theatre, clinic and programming sessions are required, as is supervision and support of neuromodulation nurses.
The role also requires general neurology outpatient and inpatient commitment with contribution to the HANU and CoTW rotas.

About us
Clinical neurology forms part of the Nottingham Regional Neuroscience Unit and serves the population of Nottingham. It also provides an outreach neurological service to Kings Mill Hospital in Mansfieldand covers a population of around 3 million people.
The DBS service at NUH was commissioned in 2011 to provide DBS for the East Midlands and is run by Dr Sare (Consultant Neurologist) and Mr Basu (Consultant Neurosurgeon), supported by an experienced team of DBS and neuromodulation nurses. The DBS service is expanding following commissioning of the West Midlands DBS service which will more than double the surgical capacity at NUH.
