Job summary

Our Dermatology department has an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our well-established, friendly and expanding team. We run a phototherapy service, undertake regular minor skin surgery lists and also offer Mohs micrographic surgery at Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre.

The role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist is vital to the patient journey, acting as a core member of the clinical team, responsible for the provision of high quality skin cancer services

You will be working with a team of consultants and senior nurses and share responsibility for cancer patient care with one other dermatology skin cancer nurse on site

The ideal candidate will be a team player able to support patient pathways in dermatology and participate fully in the treatment and monitoring of Skin Cancer Patients. You will be an excellent communicator committed to ensuring high quality patient care. Main duties of the job

To assist with planning, delivery and evaluation of the provision of a high quality skin cancer service across NUHT in conjunction with Primary Care and community care working as part of the multi-disciplinary team with the patient at the centre.

To ensure a multidisciplinary approach using and providing highly specialist advice and support towards meeting the varying needs of patients and their carers throughout their treatments and disease process against national standards for cancer, service provision and monitoring

Acting as the specialist key worker for skin cancer patients and their carers

To function effectively in a variety of settings, to liaise and facilitate with trust consultants, Allied Healthcare Professionals (AHP's) and primary care in providing best practice pathways

To participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication with patients, relatives and other staff.

About us

The Dermatology service undertakes consultant led outpatient and diagnostic services, treatments and surgical intervention. There is a dedicated adult outpatient unit. Specialist nurses provide nurse-led chronic disease management, skin cancer, light therapy, photodynamic therapy, biopsy, triamcinolone and holistic needs clinics.

We offer a supportive teamwork structure and an opportunity to further your clinical skills with the opportunity to build specialist services.There are ten self-contained consultation rooms and a clinic teaching room. There is a supervised phototherapy area with two TLO1, UVB units and one PUVA unit running an out of hour's service in the evenings and early morning. The day treatment unit provides topical therapies and iontophoresis treatments. The leg ulcer assessment area initiates appropriate investigations and patient education and links in with the community leg ulcer clinics. There is a weekly dermatological vulval clinic. Skin cancer clinics are held throughout the week and there is a weekly multidisciplinary skin cancer team meeting.

There are three skin surgery operating theatres, a recovery suite and an adjacent histopathology lab to support Mohs surgery. The more major and extensive dermatological surgery and laser treatments are carried out in this area.
