Job summary

We have an opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic band four Therapy Assistant Practitioner within physiotherapy to join the musculoskeletal therapy team at the QMC physiotherapy gym (based in the brand newly refurbished Leengate Building) at Nottingham University hospitals NHS trust. The post is a part-time post.

This is a largely clinical role based in a rehabilitation gymnasium in a large teaching hospital. The candidate would also appraise and support the B3 and B2 in the team. The main clinical work is rehabilitation of patients following total knee replacement and progressing them through to discharge. The role also includes working with qualified physiotherapists to deliver rehabilitation in the gym environment for other lower limb and some spinal patients.

Main duties of the job

  1. Maintaining their own clinical caseload of rehab patients once specific clinical competencies have been met.
  2. Deliver rehabilitation programmes prescribed by qualified members of the team.
  3. Supervision and development of the B3 and B2 in the team.
  4. Contributing to the day to day running of the gym including cleaning equipment and daily checks.
  5. Stock management and additional administrative tasks are also part of the role

To ensure that consent is gained prior to any intervention with the patient and respect a patients right to decline treatment

To undertake therapy assessments of a designated caseload. To use clinical decision making tools to interpret this assessment information and plan treatment/discharge planning accordingly

To assess, provide, fit and demonstrate use of a wide range of equipment

To lead group sessions exercise classes with support of qualified staff

To work independently to promote wellbeing, safety and independence within essential activities of daily living, by providing instruction, advice and treatment to the patient and/or their carers.

Take appropriate precautions to maintain confidentiality and patient dignity at all times, treating each patient as an individual and being sensitive to cultural and religious needs.

To refer onto appropriate hospital and community services eg.

Use initiative in the management of patients ensuring consultation with registered therapist in areas outside of their remit.

To maintain comprehensive and accurate records in line with Trust policy and relevant professional bodies Code of Professional Conduct.
