Job summary

Nottingham University Hospital's NHS Trust (NUH) has an opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic and highly motivated individual to join the Surgical Respiratory Physiotherapy Team at Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) working as a Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner, predominantly in Vascular Surgery.

Surgery at NUH is a fast paced and exciting area to work, with a number of surgical specialities, with a high acuity and turnover of patients.

You will be expected to manage your own caseload, perform new patient assessments, plan ongoing rehabilitation and formulate appropriate discharge plans to support patient flow post intervention. You will have the support from qualified staff with complex patients and regular supervisions to aid your development.

This role primarily involves working on the Vascular Surgery ward but will also include supporting the surgical team with Hepatobiliary, Colorectal and Head and Neck patients, with early mobilisation and rehabilitation. Working closely with Occupational Therapists and a wider multi-disciplinary team is also essential in this role.

Main duties of the job

Manage a caseload of patients on the vascular ward, with support from a team of qualified therapists

Assess and treat patients with a range of vascular conditions; including above and below knee amputees

Work closely with the larger surgical physiotherapy team to support with General Surgical, Colorectal, Hepatobiliary and Head and Neck patients

Joint working with Occupational Therapy colleagues and liaising with MDT (including Mobility centre) and discharge planning

Delegation of appropriate patients to the physiotherapy assistant and escalating as appropriate to qualified therapists

Assisting with training and appraisals of the physiotherapy assistant in the surgical team

Pre-operative education talks with individual in-patients awaiting amputation

Accurate and timely recording of patient contacts in medical notes, nervecentre and clinical manager

General housekeeping tasks within larger team (eg. Ordering/collecting mobility equipment)

Participate in out of hours weekend rota

The Physiotherapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff, who works together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. There are regular opportunities to attend in-service training sessions, with topics and guest speakers from a wide variety of specialities. You will have regular monthly supervision sessions and an annual appraisal.
