Job summary

We are excited to advertise 4 Assistant Practitioner Radiography (Plain Film) posts within the Radiology Department at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH). These are ongoing clinical training posts with development and progression at the core.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Assistant Radiographic Practitioner is to carry out plain film (x-ray) examinations, as required by the department, under the supervision of a Radiographer within a defined scope of practice.

The post holder will participate in a rotational system that involves working across sites over a 7 day week, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, at the City campus, Queen's Medical Centre and the Urgent Care Centre. The hours of the role must be flexible and will include compressed working hours to appreciate and satisfy the needs and demand of the service

About us

There is an opportunity to continue academic study, in order to become a Band 5 Diagnostic Radiographer alongside your core clinical duties and complete the pathway to HCPC registration. For motivated and caring individuals this is a supported and funded step on the long term career pathway to becoming a Radiographer.

It is supported by the BSc Radiography 'Top Up' Apprenticeship. Academic study will be enrolled at the University of Derby and clinical training at NUH. Study for this apprenticeship is by day release and funding will be supported by the Apprenticeship Levy.

On completion, you will have obtained the core skills, knowledge, values and behaviours to become a qualified HCPC registered Radiographer, and be eligible to apply for a post as a Band 5 Radiographer at NUH.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • (Level 5) Radiography Assistant Practitioner Foundation Science degree qualification or equivalent (Plain film specific)
  • Completion of a Radiographic science and technology module/qualification.
  • Numerate and literate to the equivalent of GCSE grade 4/ grade C.

Desirable

  • Level 3 Science qualification
  • Knowledge of ionising radiation and be able to understand the local rules for the imaging rooms in which they work
  • Be aware of the departmental IR(ME)R procedures

Experience

Essential

  • Clinically supervised training as an Apprentice Assistant Practitioner within an NHS 5 Radiology department (>1,500 hours)

Desirable

  • Experience working in a major trauma centre

Physical Skills

Essential

  • Manual handling skills.
  • Able to be on feet for long periods of time
  • Able to wear Trust PPE to prevent cross infection

Desirable

  • To ensure the compliance of safe manual handling skills and wearing of PPE of others where required.
