Job summary
Applications are invited for the above full-time, substantive Consultant Hand Surgeon post based at the Queens Medical Centre Campus in Nottingham, our University Teaching Hospital and Major Trauma Centre. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and established group of Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist surgeons to deliver acute trauma care and tertiary elective services.
The post is replacing the retirement of a senior colleague. We anticipate that the successful post holder will have recognised fellowship training in hand surgery.
Applications require full GMC registration. Previous experience of employment in the NHS is mandatory.
The department is very research active with ongoing clinical trial work as well as being the Centre for Evidence Based Hand Surgery, working closely with the BSSH to promote high quality multicentre research in common hand conditions.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required to join a dedicated hand on call rota at Queens Medical Centre, on a minimum of a 10 PA job plan.The on call commitment is approximately 1 in 8 weekends (non resident) and alternate Tuesdays (24 hours, non resident out of hours) with prospective cover. The on call is deemed to be medium in frequency, Category A. An allowance is paid for being on call, which is currently 5%.
The clinical activity will include acute hand/fracture clinic as well as a hand and wrist elective clinic. Operating lists will be hand/wrist elective and hand/wrist trauma. These commitments are based at the Queens Medical Centre site of Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, in the main building and the adjacent Treatment Centre.
We provide the full breadth of acute trauma care and elective surgery, with our practice focused entirely on hand and wrist disorders. We serve our major trauma network receiving complex and mangled trauma and also offer peripheral nerve/brachial plexus and paediatric hand services. We work collaboratively with a number of plastic surgery trained hand surgeons.
