Job summary

We are looking for people who are motivated team players to join the Speech and Language Therapy service at Nottingham University Hospitals. We now have 2 full-time permanent Speech and Language Therapy Assistant posts working within different teams in our service on a rotational basis. This provides opportunity to work with a diverse range of patients with a range of different medical conditions, mainly across our inpatient service. There is also some outpatient work. You will be working with a large team of Speech and Language Therapists and joining a team of other Speech and Language Therapy Assistants. You must have relevant experience in working with people with speech, language and communication needs, or other disabilities, be quick to learn, and enjoy working in a busy environment. We will support you with a significant induction programme and ongoing training and development.

Main duties of the job

This post is within the Speech and Language Therapy team working across both Queens Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital. You will be responsible for delivering rehabilitation programmes to patients that are recovering from a range of conditions, affecting their communication or swallowing. You will work under direct supervision from the qualified SLT clinicians to do this. This may be within group settings or on an individual treatment basis. You will be required to assist at our specialist swallowing clinics involving the use of videofluoroscopy (a radiological procedure) and FEES (Fibroptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing). You will be involved in creating communication resources for patients and in managing and using therapy software and augmentative communication devices with people who have communication difficulties. There are also non-patient facing work/administrative tasks that fit into the hours of this role requiring IT skills. You will be required to work both independently and together with the qualified therapists. There may be rotational opportunities to give opportunities to work with a range of patients and the opportunity for some outpatient work. The post involves working your hours across Monday to Friday to be discussed further at interview.

  • GCSE (A-C) English and Maths or equivalent
