Senior Systems Administrator

Job responsibilities

As a Senior Systems Administrator you will be required to support to our Linux server environment. This will involve the day-to-day management of virtual servers and associated storage, backups, and other general server infrastructure. The successful candidate will be experienced in IT Infrastructure technologies and be able to demonstrate that they have the skills and drive to be a successful Senior Systems Administrator. You may also be expected to take part in an on-call rota or work outside of normal hours by prior arrangement.

• Demonstrable knowledge and experience of supporting Linux based servers and IT infrastructure within an enterprise setting. This will include provisioning, testing, management, support, and maintenance of systems throughout the whole of its life cycle. This will include ensuring that systems exceed our minimum availability targets
• Experience of resolving Service Desk calls and underlying problem diagnosis within agreed SLAs or OLAs.
• The ability to complete assigned technical tasks to a high standard within given deadlines.
• Knowledge and experience in administering security solutions to prevent cyber security incidents.
• Proven experience in backing up and restoring Linux servers and associated applications.
• Strong communication and document writing skills

Experience

Essential

• Minimum of 3 years IT enterprise infrastructure experience.
• Proven experience in a supervisory or expert capacity in an IT infrastructure role
• Experience in network and infrastructure monitoring and acting on information they present.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience of working in a service that operate SLA/OLAs.
• Understands information technology in the public sector organisation supporting complex IT enterprise infrastructure.
• Experience of managing complex technical projects to time and on budget
• Proven risk management skills to reduce negative impact to the business.
• Knowledge of principles governing confidentiality and security of personal data

Desirable

• Has experience of supporting IT in a large IT enterprise environment.
• Knowledge of Icinga - systems monitoring solution.
• Practical knowledge ISO auditing and standards
• Has proven experience in delivering £50,000+ technical infrastructure projects.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

• Educated to degree level or equivalent technical qualification & experience.
• oHolds technical qualifications on relevant technologies (VMware, Microsoft Servers, UNIX/Linux, networking).

Desirable

• oUndertaken SAN infrastructure qualifications in an industry recognised technology

• Reach timely and effective decisions based on the appropriate use of information and IT systems.
• Can demonstrate a high level of analytical and problem-solving skills, specifically around technical faults.
• Able to demonstrate sound judgement in recommending cost effective solutions to ensure best value for the business

Planning and organisation skills

Essential

• Experienced in technical assessment including impact on build, business, and clinical processes.
• Contribute to technical strategic roadmap to meet the needs of the business.
• Able to work both individually and as a team member, prioritising workloads for accordingly
• Responsible for own personal development and improvement for specific requirements for this role.

Physical skills

Essential

• Able to concentrate for long periods in an unpredictable/reactive environment.
• Able to work under pressure with tight deadlines and provide difficult feedback to trust staff
