Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding Divisional General Manager (Family Health) to join Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH).

NUH comprises 18,300+ staff, 1,700 beds across 3 main sites, and a budget of £1billion+ and is of the largest employers in Nottinghamshire, contributing significantly to our local economy. Most staff are based at Queens Medical Centre (QMC), the City Hospital or Ropewalk House while others work directly with community partners.

NUH is the district general hospital for 2.5m city and county residents and those in its surrounding communities, and provides specialist services for 4.5m people across the East Midlands and a handful of nationally-commissioned services. We play a pivotal role in supporting our local population's health and wellbeing and have a national and international reputation for clinical care and associated research.

We are seeking a Divisional General Manager who can evidence delivery and demonstrate how they lead. The post-holder will work alongside clinical leaders and system partners to drive real improvements. Main duties of the job

Working with the Divisional Leadership Team, the Divisional General Manager will provide high-level operational and strategic leadership for the Division to ensure that all operational performance targets, including waiting lists, finance, workforce and service improvement targets, are achieved. They will work with the Trust Executive and other Divisional teams to ensure optimal performance, service integration and contribute to the development of services in their Division, and, where appropriate, the wider Nottinghamshire health and social care system.

To support the Divisional Director in discussions with commissioners, leading the service planning process.

To manage all services and lead service planning across the Division taking responsibility for the overall achievement of performance, quality, finance and workforce KPIs, working in partnership with other members of the Divisional Leadership team to ensure the best clinical outcomes and patient experience.

To work collaboratively with other Divisions to support the improvement of patient pathways.

To work with clinicians to ensure that professional staff have an opportunity to influence the management, planning of and development of services in the Division.

Leadership

As part of the Divisional leadership team to provide inspirational leadership so that all staff in the Division are engaged and motivated to provide safe and effective patient care. Make provision for succession planning and development to support others to develop.

As part of the divisional leadership team to foster a culture that promotes openness and where people have the confidence to speak up and ensuring that communication mechanisms are operating effectively in the Division.

To foster a climate of innovation and improvement for all services in the Division, including encouraging staff to identify further opportunities for improvement.

To lead the development of the strategic and annual operating plan for the Divisions services, ensuring it is consistent with the aims and objectives of the Trust and to ensure that the plans fully reflect the service needs of the Division.

Performance

To achieve and sustain all constitutional waiting time targets and patient standards, through creating developing and patient centred services. To monitor performance of such.

To lead the Divisions achievement of the financial control target and a sustainable financial efficiency programme which engages all Divisional staff.

To deliver a balanced budget, taking action to address underperformance and ensuring financial resources are effectively managed and using analysis of financial information to ensure appropriate allocation of resources for each service.

Lead on modernisation/transformational projects including service re-design and any associated workforce change requirements

Develop and maintain robust performance management systems to ensure that each specialty delivers on it patient and workforce targets, holding others to account for the delivery of targets for quality, patient care, service delivery and risk.

To monitor delivery of all service improvement projects in the Division.

To be responsible for daily operational management of the Division, including performance, quality, finance and workforce KPIs.

To ensure the right systems and processes are in place to monitor performance and to monitor quality, service delivery and risk, completing risk assessments, as appropriate.

To formulate business cases for service and capital development and to lead the divisions capital expenditure plans

Staffing

To ensure levels of staff engagement are maximised and that staff survey results are acknowledged and acted upon.

To ensure that all staff undertake the prescribed Trust induction programme and to undergo appropriate refresher training.

To ensure that line managers adhere to HR policies and performance indicators.

To undertake regular reviews of staffing levels in the Division to ensure that the right number of staff with the right skills are in place to deliver current and predicted future activity.

To write business cases or workforce change papers to implement any shifts in staff demand.

To complete the Divisions workforce planning and training needs documentation

Trustwide

To ensure compliance with Trust HR policies and processes, including recruitment, performance management and training for their team.

To support the investigation of complaints and incidents within the Division and to chair hearings, as appropriate.
