The Biochemistry department at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust comprises laboratories supporting both local and regional specialist services including Trace Element analysis, Sweat Testing, Inborn Errors of Metabolism, Immunosuppressant monitoring, Immunochemistry and Trisomy Screening.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and well-motivated individual who is able to work as an effective team member.
Bringing with you technical knowledge in biochemistry, you will help lead a team of qualified staff and play a key role in the implementation and validation of equipment and new methodologies. Working closely with the Senior Management Team you will play a vital part in ensuring a high quality patient-led service is provided by the Specialist sections and you will maintain and contribute to services provided by the Department in terms of standards, quality, clinical effectiveness, audit and training.

As a state-registered Clinical Scientist, working towards, or with Part 1 of the Royal College of Pathologists, the post-holder will participate in the departments clinical advisory and reporting service and other responsibilities as may arise within the department. The post holder will take a leading role in the Specialist Chemistry section (comprising of Immunosuppressants, Trace Elements, Trisomy and Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) and Metabolic) working across both Nottingham City and Queens Medical Centre Clinical Biochemistry departments. Additionally the post-holder will participate in the routine and Saturday morning Duty Biochemist rota, reporting results and providing specialist advice and support to users of the Departments services. They will also maintain and contribute to the services provided by the Department in terms of standards, quality and clinical effectiveness, audit and training.
-To work with the Consultant Clinical Scientist within the Specialist section to manage Specialist Chemistry implementation projects
-Attend relevant Multidisciplinary meetings and in the absence of the Consultant Clinical Scientist represent the Nottingham laboratory at National and Regional Meetings
-Select and advise on appropriate investigative strategies in complex clinical situations and to provide advice and trouble-shooting expertise for Specialist Chemistry equipment
-To maintain quality standards in the Specialist sections including audit, internal and external quality control review, error reporting and incident investigation, instigating appropriate action as required.
-Take a key role in the delivery of quality in adherence to UKAS standards.
-Participate in the Department's results reporting service. This will involve technical and clinical assessment of results and deciding on the appropriate course of action for abnormal results.
-Review of existing assays and technologies in terms of scientific and clinical aspects.
-Undertake service development and improvement in line with the Department's strategy and Annual Plan.
-To be involved in the processes required in the purchase of new equipment, facilitating the successful implementation and validation of new equipment leading to service developments within the Specialist sections.
-To participate in scientific and clinical meetings within the Department and at local, regional and national level as required.
-To be involved in the appraisal and performance reviews for Specialist Chemistry staff members. To supervise and mentor students, staff and new appointees within the Specialist Chemistry sections.
