Job summary

We are looking for a Buyer to join the team to deliver high quality value for money procurement services on behalf of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and external clients. You will need to demonstrate strong team working skills; have experience of working in a Procurement environment and be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

This post will play a key role in ensuring the procurement of the right goods at the right price delivered to the right place at the right time. This will be achieved by working together with clients and service users to understand their procurement needs, and by working together to standardise and rationalise products and services. This post will support senior staff to analyse and evaluate procurement data; tender and award contracts; improve supplier performance, implement specific electronic catalogues, and continuously improve the service for clients.

This post will have a particular focus on catalogue and data management, ensuring systems are up to date and reducing delays and queries.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Be a member of the Procurement Department and will be required to adopt a flexible approach towards any supply chain activities undertaken.

Provide day to day support for end users through the Trust ordering process.

Manual and electronic ordering of goods and services on behalf of the Trust.

Provide an order expediting service as required.

Manage an allocation of service and maintenance contracts, working in collaboration with the end-users to ensure timely renewals and equipment cover.

Work internally with the data team to aid the development of e-procurement for the Trust.

Provide consistent procurement advice and support to the Trust as required.

Posts at this level contain a range of tasks operating within broad procedural guidelines. Good IT and general office skills are required. Good communication skills are also important to deal with a broad range of customers.

Support the Category Managers as required.

Ensure a high level of customer care to all visitors and those telephoning the Department.

Ensure clerical databases are maintained for departmental information.

Attend mandatory training as directed by the Trust.

Use initiative in undertaking any other duties that may be required or that are delegated by the Category Managers.

Maintain and update personal knowledge, taking responsibility for evidencing continuing personal development (CPD).

Demonstrate professional behaviour at all times in line with Trust values.

Comply with legal requirements, confidentiality issues and all information governance guidance.

Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and other information governance guidelines by reviewing the storage, use and disposal of information.

  • Educated to GCSE level as a minimum

Desirable

  • Evidence of some form of procurement training and or working towards CIPS qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within a purchasing/customer service type environment
  • Good level of numeracy and literacy
  • Computer operating experience especially MS Office

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of tender procedures
