Radiotherapy Information and Support Radiographer (Breast & Upper GI)

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join ourradiotherapy information and support team. You will work closely with the breast clinical oncologists to provide seamless care for patients undergoing radiotherapy for breast and upper GI cancer.

You will attend clinics with the clinical oncologists and provide information to the patient to prepare them for the treatment that they are to undergo. During the treatment pathway you will be a key resource to the patient and be a member of the team reviewing patients through their treatment.

Main duties of the job

  1. To act as an Advanced Practitioner providing information and support to breast and upper GI patients and their carers before during and after a course of radiotherapy and work collaboratively with the MDT and allied health professionals. Work closely with and deputise for the principal information and support radiographer as required.

  2. To act as a focus for clinical advice on patient care, working closely with radiographers, medical staff, physicists and technicians, nurses and the oncology research team. To act as a resource for health care professionals within the trust and in primary care.

  3. Undertake the on-treatment review for patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment for breast and upper GI patients.

  4. To lead on the development of evidence-based patient care guidelines. To participate in clinical research and development of the information and support service

  5. To take prime responsibility for co-ordinating the information and supportive care for breast and upper GI patients.

Essential

  • Evidence of building robust and meaningful relationships with the multi-professional team to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the service, e.g. radiotherapy physics, medics and nursing staff

Desirable

  • Evidence of cross service/profession communication to coordinate pathways of care.

Other requirements

Essential

  • Responsible with colleagues for defining and monitoring the clinical governance framework for the unit
  • Recent experience of working in the NHS and awareness of radiotherapy practices associated.
  • Ability to attend clinics at Nottingham City and Kings Mills Hospital, Mansfield.

  • Lead and facilitate the development of new techniques, research and audit in collaboration with other staff groups within the Directorate

Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC Registered radiographer with first degree in radiotherapy and oncology or equivalent e.g. BSc (Hons) or Diploma College of Radiographers
  • Highly skilled radiographer working towards or completed qualifications equivalent to Masters level e.g. MSc or Higher Diploma of the College of Radiographers. (Must be able to complete advanced practice modules to support role)

Desirable

  • Training in consent, clinical examination, radiographer on treatment review, planning techniques or treatment imaging.
  • MSc in Radiotherapy and Oncology, Advanced clinical practice or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Experienced clinical radiographer with a demonstrable significant post qualification experience
  • Sufficiently informed and experienced to act as a focus for clinical advice to multi-professional staff, wherever possible based on evidence-based

  • Experience in teaching and facilitating training/development of staff and others.
  • Experience in leading projects or teams with excellent outcomes
