This is a key role within NUH finance, leading on providing assurance over our financial controls and reporting. and contributing to developing our processes and practices as part of continuing improvement.
The post holder will be a key member of the senior finance team at NUH and will deputise for the Assistant Director of Financial Services (ADFS).
The post holder has overall responsibility for the leading the accounts and treasury team, delivery of financial accounting and controls, statutory reporting, technical accounting expertise and efficient financial operations. This includes management leading the production of the Annual Report & Accounts and co-ordinating external and internal audit work.
The successful candidate will also play a key role in leading by example, and modelling the values and behaviours outlined in the Trust's "Team NUH Values and Behaviours" model.
Main duties of the job
The role involves providing leadership for and management of the financial accounts and treasury teams, and for the cash management, forecasting and monthly and annual accounting and reporting functions these teams support.
The post holder will be responsible for interpreting technical financial and accounting standards and advice from external agencies and providing assurance and guidance on appropriate strategies and polices to ensure that NUH complies with all statutory obligations and best practice; and providing professional insight, expertise and judgement on matters relating to accounting and reporting, the formulation and direction of the financial services strategy, and the development and maintenance of the financial processes and controls.

Leadership
- Undertake the role of Deputy to the Assistant Director of Financial Services (ADFSs) as required.
- Work with the Lead Accountants and drive discussions and secure agreement with them where there are issues of common interest or involvement, including use of resources and allocation of work.
- Provide leadership and overall management of the Financial Accounting function and specifically lead service improvement.
- Review and where appropriate recommend changes in the structure of Financial Accounts, to ensure the Department is fit for purpose and makes the most effective use of resources.
- Apply accounting and industry best practice and evaluating processes and procedures.
- Undertake the role of Relationship Manager the Trusts external auditors.
Performance and Change Management
- Ensure the highest standards of behaviour and conduct are maintained across Financial Accounts at all times and by all staff.
- Responsible for all aspects of the performance management of the Financial Accounts team, in accordance with Trust policy, including undertaking annual performance reviews and regular 1:1 meetings.
- Lead the systematic change management of Financial Accounts
Communication
- Develop and implement a communication strategy for Financial Accounts.
- Ensure effective communication with all staff, resulting in all staff having a clear understanding of what is required of them.
- Receive, interpret and communicate sensitive information to the wider Trust.
- Promote a culture where staff feel empowered and accountable for the service they provide.
- Establish close working relationships with managers, directors throughout the Trust and members of the senior finance team, to encourage mutual co-operation and good communication channels.
Technical
