Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for two Band 7 Genetic Counsellors to join Nottingham's Regional Clinical Genetics Service.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake a range of genetic counsellor duties including independent genetic counsellor clinics. Sub-specialisation is supported at Nottingham; one post will comprise a mixture of cancer and general genetics, and also urgent referral work. The second post will be focused on perinatal genetics including general and prenatal/urgent referrals.

You must be motivated and will be expected to work ethically and maintain appropriate knowledge of clinical guidelines. You will have excellent communication skills and you must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post-holders will be based principally in Nottingham however they may be required to cover outreach clinics in Derbyshire, Mansfield or Lincolnshire and will be expected to travel either by public or own transport when required. We are conducting clinical activity using a hybrid model of virtual (telephone and video) and in-person clinics.

The genetic counselling team also supports a number of specialist clinics and MDTs and is actively engaged in a range of educational and service development initiatives across the region . You will be expected to contribute to teaching sessions and to clinical audit.

  • First degree (in genetics, nursing, or biological/social sciences) or equivalent
  • Professional qualification (STP Genomic Counsellor or MSc Genetic Counselling, RGN, etc.)

Desirable
