This exciting opportunity has arisen from promotion within the existing team and from the increased regional funding to work collaboratively with Paediatric Rheumatology services in Leicester. The service already holds network clinics in Derby, Grantham, Mansfield and Peterborough.
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic nurse who is looking to develop and enhance their nursing skills, whilst working within an innovative and friendly clinical team?
The Paediatric Rheumatology Service is multi-professional and multi-disciplinary in its approach working across boundaries within the hospital and the community.
You will be actively encouraged to attend Paediatric Rheumatology specialist meetings, locally, nationally and internationally. The post holder will be supported to become part of the wider UK Paediatric Rheumatology Community networking with colleagues to gain own knowledge and to assist in the further advancement of nursing practice within this specialist field.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be trained in all aspects of Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology Nursing Care. There will be an expectation to gain additional skills in Paediatric Immunology and Paediatric Uveitis to provide support to these services in the absence of their substantive staff.
In summary the main nursing duties are:
- Delivery of clinical care - running nurse led clinics, supporting patients within wards, day case areas and community settings.
- Multi professional and Multi-disciplinary collaboration to ensure safe and consistent rheumatological care across the Children's Hospital

The post holder will work, Monday to Friday, alongside experienced CNSs and the wider multi-disciplinary Paediatric Rheumatology Team. Flexible hours are available along with working from home once established in the role.
- Work within the East Midlands Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology Network and there maybe requirement on occasions to support the service in Leicester. This post holder will however, be based in Nottingham.
- Be responsible for the management of a caseload of patients working collaboratively and significantly within the childrens multidisciplinary Rheumatology team.
- Assess the care needs of children, young people, and their families with rheumatological and associated conditions, advise accordingly and implement programmes of care which are designed, evaluated and amended as appropriate
- Support the care of patients with rheumatological and associated conditions across the region and when required attend clinics in Derby, Lincoln, Leicester, Peterborough, Mansfield.
- Support and guide the inpatient team in the management of complex patients admitted for immediate and long term care
- Provide guidance and support to families at home on specialist care associated with long term rheumatological needs, for example blood results, medication compliance and facilitate clinical review.
- Undertake telephone consultations and attend/lead clinic sessions to maintain continuity of treatment and offer support and guidance to families
- To manage the teams shared email account where necessary seeking support from senior nursing colleagues or the wider Paediatric Rheumatology MDT
