Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Consultant Ophthalmologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust with expertise in Vitreo-Retinal and Medical Retina. We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our growing team of 23 Ophthalmic Consultants at Queen's Medical Centre working together to make a difference to Ophthalmology services within Nottingham and beyond.

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and be on the GMC Specialist Register for surgical Ophthalmology or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Main duties of the job

This post is a permanent Consultant post in Ophthalmology with specialist interest in Vitreo-Retinal (VR) and Medical Retina (MR), to complement dynamic VR and MR teams. The successful candidate would have timetables clinic, theatre and SPA sessions, and would also be expected to contribute to general ophthalmology clinical activity and on-call commitments.

The department has a heavy teaching and training commitment towards medical students, specialist trainees, nurses and other visiting doctors. The appointee will be expected to contribute to this educational activity from time to time.

This is an opportunity to join a team of highly qualified and experienced ophthalmologists and be responsible for providing the management of patients in all aspects of the Vitreo-Retinal and Medical Retina sub-specialisms.

The Ophthalmology unit offers a comprehensive range of routine and specialist ophthalmic services and the post-holder will be expected to play an active role in the development and provision of the Vitreo-Retinal and Medical Retina sub-specialty services for patients at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

  • Higher professional degree ChM, DM, PhD or equivalent.

Clinical Skills/Experience

  • Full general ophthalmic surgical training with extensive experience of general ophthalmology with sub-specialty expertise in Vitreo-Retinal and / or Medical Retina.
  • Fellowship level in Vitreo-Retinal and / or Medical Retina.
  • Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description.

Desirable

  • Specific training in communication skills.
  • Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors.
  • Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors.
  • Able to perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery independently including enhanced cataract procedures (for those who wish to undertake surgery).

Management Skills
