Job summary

NUH is looking for a senior manager to join the leadership team.. This is a newly created hybrid role with the responsibility for the efficient management and delivery of the Haematological Malignancy Diagnostics service as well as delivering transformation and efficiency across all cellular pathology services.

Although experience of managing a HMDS service is not essential, the successful candidate will have significant operational experience of managing a high pressure service, maintaining ISO accreditation standards and delivering complex service improvement projects to tight deadlines.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced manager with good leadership skills and someone who is passionate about transformation and supporting teams through change programmes.

You will be involved in business planning, strategic service developments and service transformational programs of work, working in collaboration with other departments and other external stakeholders and agencies.

You will be an excellent communicator, a problem solver, able to influence and build advocacy across the service and in the wider NUH community/network.

About us

Cellular pathology services are split across 2 campuses (QMC and NCH), we process in excess of 110,000 surgical specimens, 7000 non- gynae cytology and 1500 Post mortem cases per annum.

The service has already transitioned the HMDN service to digital pathology reporting and is expanding its rollout plan across the other specialities with future developments for AI technology being actively investigated.

There is a well-developed Haematopathology service in Nottingham based at the City Hospital Campus within Cellular Pathology. There are 3 consultant Haematopathologists and 2 consultant haematologists who provide Haematopathology reporting for Nottingham, Lincolnshire, Kings Mill and UHDB Hospitals. This includes the reporting of lymph node and bone marrow pathology as well as flow cytometry and genomic interpretation. Service is expanding and is looking for great leadership to take the service forward.

Essential

  • MSc Postgraduate qualification (or equivalent demonstrable education)
  • Evidence of higher specialist training in appropriate area, gained through short courses or distance learning to post graduate level
  • Evidence of formal management training / recognised management qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Considerable experience of managing and leading a section within a service, with a significant number of line reporters.
  • Able to demonstrate strong leadership ability and organisational skills in order to contribute to the strategic direction of the service
  • Experience leading complex transformational projects in healthcare with the ability to undertake effective change management & planning
  • Significant experience of laboratory accreditation standards and assessment visit requirements.

Desirable

  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of financial management and budgetary control.

Communication and relationship skills

Essential

  • Ability to build purposeful working relationships and partnerships, commanding the trust and confidence of key stakeholders and professional peers and utilising effective negotiation skills
