Job summary

The East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) is seeking an Evaluation Lead to lead and further develop our evaluation services. Working as a key member of the Analytics and Evaluation Service team, the post holder will be responsible for developing our evaluation offer and providing oversight of evaluation activities undertaken by the team or commissioned by the EMAHSN. They will provide expertise, advice and guidance on evaluation for our partners in the health and care community as well as for innovators.

This is an office-based role however we are currently trialing a hybrid working approach with staff working a combination of home and office work. Our offices are based in Nottingham but we would welcome applicants from across the East Midlands.

Main duties of the job

The key objectives of this post are to develop and oversee the evaluation service for the EMAHSN, health and care partners and for innovators and industry.

The evaluation support provided by the EMAHSN is focused on ensuring high quality evidence of the impact of innovations in practice. Working with team, the post holder will lead on the provision of evaluation advice and services including the design, delivery and dissemination of evaluation.

The team may provide one or more of these services to partners across the health and care community as well as for innovators. The Evaluation Lead will provide advice to EMAHSN and partners on commissioning these services, including from Universities and other providers.

The Evaluation Lead will be responsible for developing the evaluation offer as well as oversight for evaluation activities undertaken by the team including evidence reviews and the quality assurance of EMAHSN commissioned evaluations that have been undertaken by external partners.

Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • Higher degree, minimum of a postgraduate Master's degree closely relevant to health services research or equivalent experience/qualification Higher (i.e. beyond first degree) academic qualifications and training should include a substantial research methods component, with evidence of application in original evaluation and research
  • Knowledge of best practice and/or professional guidelines relevant to the area of evaluation and specifically qualitative methods of evaluation

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of the NHS and local health and social service functions "

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience of quantitative and/or qualitative research studies relevant to a healthcare context
  • Evidence of using evaluation and research to design and influence the delivery of services in a health, or similar sector
  • Previous experience of designing, delivering analysing and reporting evaluations, particularly using mixed methods
  • Experience of working with clinical delivery teams, operational managers and other NHS managers
  • Change management / quality improvement experience
  • Experience of service re-design, development and change
  • Experience of undertaking rapid evidence reviews and making recommendations based on the evidence (including assessing the strength of the evidence and limitations)

Aptitudes and skills required

Essential

  • Strong understanding of the methods and skills needed for the conduct and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative studies.
  • Be able to use and interpret a variety of analytical techniques and be familiar with one or more common analysis software tools (e.g NVivo and / or statistical analysis packages)
  • Ability to write evaluation reports and projects documents, including the ability to synthesise data into meaningful conclusions and make recommendations
  • Knowledge of processes of information and research governance, particularly those appropriate to the NHS, the importance of confidentiality of health and social care data, and the principles and practice of ethics approval for research investigation.
  • Knowledge of breadth of research design, methodologies and processes commonly encountered in a health and social care research.
