Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the challenging but rewarding role of Ward Sister / Charge Nurse on our Children's Assessment Unit (CAU) and ward E37.
Both CAU and E37 is a crucial part of the pediatric emergency care pathway. CAU is a 12 bed unit which admits directly all acute medical admissions from Children's Emergency Department, where further assessment and treatment is needed. CAU also takes direct referral from GP within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire for patients who require a pediatric review. Ward E37 is the second part of the patient journey, where patients who normally require a short stay admission are admitted. Ward E37 is a 20 bedded unit which utilise bed capacity flexible, reflecting need for pediatric medical beds.The ward specialises in Diabetes and Respiratory conditions amongst many others.
The post holder will have overall responsibility for both ward areas and will lead the nursing team across both CAU and E37.
The successful applicant will need to be an inspirational leader who can motivate and develop a team. Excellent communication skills are essential to this role.

We will expect you to take managerial, clinical and professional responsibility for both CAU and ward E37 and ensure the co-ordination and the development of a designated team of nurses that you will line manage.
You will work closely with the matron for medicine and other ward sisters within the medical footprint to ensure the provision of children emergency care is excellent and the patient journey is positive.
You will work in collaboration with the specialist teams including consultants, specialist nurses and the operational teams within the children's hospital which is critical to ensure services are running smoothly and waiting list targets are met as a whole team approach.
