The Diabetes in Pregnancy Service at NUH is expanding and an exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our Maternity team on a 12 month secondment!
This role is an exciting development opportunity for a diabetes nurse looking to develop their skills and experience in a specialist area. You would be joining a multidisciplinary team caring for women with pre-existing and gestational diabetes during pregnancy. You would be providing care in both the outpatient and inpatient settings and care for women using a range of technology - GDm-Health, Libre, Dexcom.
The Diabetes in Pregnancy Service will be advertising and looking to appoint a permanent Band 7 Specialist Diabetes Nurse for Maternity at the end of the secondment.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join our friendly multidisciplinary team as a key member of the Service; working closely in partnership with the Lead Midwife for diabetes to maintain and develop the service to:
- Provide specialist care for a caseload of patients requiring specialist diabetes input during pregnancy and immediately postpartum
- Act as a source of expertise on Diabetes for women, their families and staff, including the provision of education and training.
- Have a vision and desire to develop the service in new areas e.g. pre-conception care
This is a full time post, across both Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital Campuses, on a Monday to Friday day-shift basis

The Diabetes in Pregnancy Service at NUH is a growing, friendly, diverse team that provide care at both the QMC and City campuses. Around 10% of women who give birth at NUH have some form of diabetes and are cared for by the diabetes in pregnancy service. You would be working alongside the multidisciplinary team providing expert diabetes care for women with Pre-existing diabetes and those with complex gestational diabetes, as well as developing the service further e.g. pre-conception clinics for women with diabetes wishing to optimise their glycaemic control.

Clinical

- Lead on agreed QI projects for the service
- Identify need for, interpret and undertake research, surveillance and clinical audit in order to improve effectiveness and equality of patient care (both national and local audits)

- Experience of autonomous history taking, diagnosis, referral and discharge.
- Experience of commencing Dexcom and insulin pumps.
