Job summary

This key role within the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN), will lead national patient safety improvement programmes within the region, utilising quality improvement approaches. These programmes are aligned to the National Patient Safety Strategy and form the basis of activity undertaken by a national network of patient safety collaboratives, (PSCs) based within each AHSN.

You will use skills as a highly motivated, inquisitive, creative problem solver with excellent communication and influencing skills, to work across organisational boundaries. You will bring together people across systems to lead quality improvement.

Two opportunities are currently available as fixed-term or secondment, based at the University of Nottinghams Innovation Park when office working resumes.

A post until the end of the AHSN licensing period, March 2023

A 6-month post between October 21-March 22.

The provisional date for interview is 20th August

Main duties of the job

The Senior Improvement Lead will support and undertake improvement testing and scale-up activities and projects across a range of health and care settings, demonstrating measurable and incremental changes. They will have a track record of delivering health and social care change, with an ability to quickly develop productive relationships with stakeholders, including patients and the public. Working collaboratively, theyll feel confident to challenge the status quo, and be prepared to adapt and seek mutually beneficial solutions to patient safety issues.

Candidates must demonstrate previous application of quality improvement methodologies and project management skills relevant to integrated care.

Occasional travel within the East Midlands may be required.

About us

There are 15 AHSNs in England, operating as the innovation arm of the NHS, bringing together social care, public health, patients, research, VCSE, NHS and industry to identify test and spread new technologies and better ways of working. We save the NHS money, empower health & care staff to improve patient lives, working with stakeholders to establish priorities and provide support. We import evidenced solutions from other regions and export our successful East Midlands programmes on a national basis. Our overarching aim is always to make a difference to patients.

AHSNs host Patient Safety Collaborative (PSCs), commissioned to deliver patient safety improvement programmes (SIPs). PSCs currently delivers SIPs for Managing Physical Deterioration in Adults; Maternity & Neonatal Safety, Medicines Safety and Mental Health Safety, aiming to increase adoption and spread of safety initiatives.

Essential

  • Educated to Masters or equivalent level in a clinical, health services management, patient safety or quality improvement subject, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience in these areas.

Desirable

  • Recognised patient safety training course or qualification
  • Recognised QI qualification
  • Recognised qualification in Human factors / Ergonomics

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of managing medium/large-scale Quality Improvement projects working across different organisations and within a complex environment using a range of programme management techniques and QI methods
  • Working in an improvement programme management role working with a range of external and public organisations including NHS agencies, local authorities, government agencies, voluntary and independent sectors
  • Evidence of experience in applying a broad range of project management practices, tools and techniques
