Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified ACP to join our expanding service within Cardiology. We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic and compassionate individual to join our existing team of 4 qualified ACPs, 8 trainees and 2 specialist nurses within Cardiology. The post offers extensive clinical diversity with rotation to the Acute Cardiac Unit, ACS and rapid access chest pain clinics and cardiac outreach services. Rotation to each of these areas offer a unique opportunity to autonomously manage a caseload of cardiac patients in a variety of clinical settings.

Main duties of the job

The Focus of the post holder will be to:-

  • Undertake a significant patient caseload across a variety of clinical settings
  • Work at an advanced professional standard using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience
  • Develop an extended scope of practice beyond their primary profession
  • Triage referrals independently and make onward referrals for further investigation or treatment as appropriate
  • Audit and support service improvement initiatives to improve patient flow through emergency admissions and into speciality care.
  • Support inpatient services in the delivery of safe, personal and effective care by working across all sites within the Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate/s must have completed an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, which includes Non-Medical Prescribing, show a portfolio demonstrating evidence of their ACP clinical competence and ideally be mapped to competencies relevant to Cardiology.

Successful applicants will undergo a period of supervision and assessment to ensure they are embedded correctly into our workforce and to develop their skills/portfolio within Cardiology. They will also have an allocated Cardiology Consultant supervisor that has dedicated time within their job plan.

If you are an ACP in another clinical area with the relevant qualifications but are looking to change your area of practice, we may be able to offer a supervised practice/training role to enable you to develop your skills, competencies and a portfolio within a new specialty. If appointed, we will support you with a period of supervision and assessment tailored specifically to your individual needs and requirements.

Additionally, your clinical development will be supported and include access to a well-developed post graduate education plan. The post-graduation plan is a five-year plan mapped to the Cardiology competencies as well as encompassing the pillars of advanced practice. During these five years it is expected that the individual will be actively involved in developing their specialty within local/regional forums and networks.

Along with clinical work across the specialty the successful applicant will have weekly rostered time to undertake their own continued professional development alongside service development work. They will be given the opportunity to follow personal interests and pursuits whether that is in education, teaching, research or management.

Some examples of roles ACPs in our department have undertaken include, operational ACP lead for Cardiology, faculty for registered nurses Heart Services Education Programme / ALS provider course MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.
