Sports Exercise Medicine Consultant Post
Applications are invited for a part-time substantive Sports Exercise Medicine Consultant to join our dedicated Sports Exercise Medicine Service at the Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust. We are looking for a substantive Consultant to join the team with a mission to make healthcare better for patients.
This is a replacement post, which has been configured to deliver and expand facilities for Sports Exercise Medicine within Surgery Division across t Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) and The National Centre (NCSEM) in Loughborough.
The post holder will be expected to demonstrate commitment to training, and research in their chosen area.
The post combines clinical duties at number of Nottingham University Hospital Trust sites including Queens Medical Centre Campus, the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM) at Loughborough and Community clinics at different locations in Nottingham.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to the delivery of clinical services and clinical supervision of trainees within the Sports and Exercise Medicine team.
The post holder will participate in the department's day to day running which could include leading audit and QIP activities, governance work and development of line management responsibilities.
Other work opportunities available include educational supervision of trainees, working with the integration of Sports Exercise Medicine into the new National Rehabilitation Centre, the moving Medicine programs and Active Health projects in the Community.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to driving Sports Exercise Medicine Governance of and acting as an advisor to other departments working to include physical activity interventions across the Trust within the NUH Strategy.
About us
The Sport and Exercise Medicine Department at Nottingham University Hospital has been running for 25 years. The successful candidate will be working alongside a team of four Sports Exercise Medicine Consultants, all part-time who provide MSK Secondary Care clinics for both adults and paediatrics at Queens Medical Centre and the National Centre for Sports Exercise Medicine in Loughborough.

Clinical
- To participate as a consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine as appropriate. The role will cover adult out-patients (2018: 1378 patients seen, 85% GP referral with 2:1 New:Fu ratio). - To fulfil the requirements of continuing professional development & annual joint appraisal, as required by the clinical contract.
- To participate in the consultant rota for outpatient clinical work within the Sport and Exercise Medicine department. There is no on-call/out of hours
- To work with external academic and organisational requirements regarding quality improvement projects such as Patient Related Outcome Measure.
- Demonstrating leadership to by for example coordinating resources, the work of others to ensure the effective delivery of agreed objectives and work plans with the
- To develop and sustain an ongoing regional and national reputation excellence in Clinical Provision of Adult and Paediatric Sport and Exercise Medicine patient care.

Research
The Trust has extremely close links with Nottingham University, and has academic departments in the majority of its clinical specialties. There are University and Trust research facilities. The Trust has a research strategy and management framework which aligns its funding for research with the research and innovations activities it supports. Consultants who wish to undertake research require the approval of the Trust R&I Department and relevant ethical approval, and must adhere to the National Framework for Research Governance.
Other Duties as Agreed
The appointee may wish to take on other roles alongside their clinical role.
