Job summary

Nottingham University Hospitals Trust are looking for an exceptional individual to lead our very successful physiologist led valve clinic. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced and driven individual to lead their own specialist area at a large tertiary centre.

As valued lead you will work closely with our clinical head of imaging to support and monitor patients with heart valve disease from their initial visit to clinic through to valve surgery in our purpose built Trent Cardiac Centre. You will also work with the surgical team to lead our post operative prosthetic heart valve baseline service.

The right candidate will be given the opportunity and support to develop their skills to ensure we continue to offer a first class service for patients and keep pace with new innovations in imaging and national / international guidelines.

You will join the team during an exciting period of reconfiguration and service improvements. We are currently expanding our paediatric and congenital specialist echo service and physiologist led stress echo as well as developing a physiologist led heart failure clinic. Although your role will be to lead the valve service, the right candidate will also have the opportunity to work within our other specialist areas if desired and full training will be given.

Main duties of the job

As a highly specialised physiologist, your main duties will be the provision of high quality echo studies ranging from standard TTE to advanced techniques. As valve clinic lead you may also be required to perform treadmill stress tests on valve clinic patients to establish exercise capacity.

You will be supported by the echo lead and valve clinic administrator to ensure timely follow up of valve clinic patients and to develop current protocols when necessary. You will be given a weekly non clinical session for CPD / service admin.

You will also play an active role in the training program at NUH, providing quality practical and theoretical teaching to junior team members and clinical colleagues with a focus on valve assessments.

As a band 7 physiologist, you will assist the echo lead and non invasive manager in daily management of the team and act as a role model for colleagues.

The post will be primarily based at the City Hospital Campus and the purpose built Trent Cardiac Centre however a degree of cross town working at QMC campus will be required.

About us

The echo team at NUH are a friendly, experienced and highly skilled group of physiologists with a wide range of experience in different echo specialities. We are supported by our team of adult imaging and paediatric consultants and work closely with them to provide and develop a high quality service.

We are very proud of our BSE accredited status and we are continually looking for ways to improve and ensure we are providing the best possible care for our patients and support for our team.

In the last 12 months we have invested significantly in our equipment and we currently have a number of new machines with advanced software.

The department holds twice weekly consultant led review meetings, bi monthly time out sessions for CPD and a yearly BSE accredited echo training day. You will also be supported to attend national courses and conferences.

Informal visits are encouraged.
