A Patient, Carer and Public Representative (PCPR) is a non-Trust employee who supports the organisation in improving patient experience.

Patient, Carer and Public Representatives will bring an independent perspective and will be involved, as an equal partner, to help the Trust improve the experience and outcomes for our patients through meaningful involvement in key decisions, service planning and reviews by removing barriers to ensure equality, diversity and inclusion for all.

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust would like to welcome PCPRs to provide the perspective of patients and the public and to represent the patients and publics perception of services within the Trust.

PCPRs can be patients, service users, carers, family members or other lay people (including NHS staff from another organisation).

Main duties of the job

Provide the perspective of patients and the public and to represent the patients and publics perception of services within the Trust.

To be involved in Trust developments and improvements through receiving, reviewing, commenting, challenging and responding to proposals and discussions that support the organisation to deliver its strategic objectives.

To provide a diverse forum for influencing and contributing to discussions and planning of the most effective health services for the local population.

To support person-centred (patient, carer, public) design and co-design.

To ensure patients and carers are involved and have an influence at all possible stages of organisational development and quality improvement.

To support the development and revision of patient focused policy and strategy.

To work in partnership with the Trust to develop the quality of Trust services from the perspective of the patient.

To work in partnership with the Trust in determining priorities.

To support and influence the development of patient information within the Trust.

To participate in a range of activities to gather intelligence and seek a patient and carer perspective about service development and/or quality improvements.

To seek examples of good practice; and highlight work already done.

Promote the work and aims of the Panel and the involvement of patients and carers in the development and continuous improvement of services at every opportunity.
