Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a positive and flexible individual to join our busy Head and Neck service within the Surgical Clinical Business Unit (CBU2) as a Head and Neck Admin Clerk. The Head and Neck service consists of 3 key teams:

Ophthalmology (Eyes)

Ears, Nose and Throat

Oral Maxillofacial (Dental)

You will predominately be based within the Ophthalmology department with a requirement to cross cover other services within Head and Neck with support is necessary.

This position is 37.5 hours, 5 days per week. Flexible working patterns may also be considered.

For this post, you will be educated to O level/GCSE standard (grade C or above) or equivalent and possess previous clerical/reception experience.

The successful candidate will be working closely with the Head and Neck Consultants, Nurses and their teams. It is essential that you have excellent communication skills and previous experience working within a health care administration setting would be advantageous.

You will be required to work independently using your own initiative whilst being able to respond quickly and efficiently to conflicting demands and queries.

We are relocationg to Alhambra in Barnsley town centre late 2025.

Main duties of the job

Collection of and preparation of medical records.

Dealing with queries and requests in person and by telephone from the public and other hospital departments, consultants and outside agencies.

Communication with public who may have communication difficulties including language barriers and patients with hearing difficulties.

Pulling and filing of medical records.

Liaise with staff at all levels regarding issues relating to the head and neck specialty.

Assisting with the duties of other staff when required and providing cover in times of absence or extreme pressure.

Filing, photocopying and scanning clinical information.

Reporting of faults to estates.

Organising the collection of confidential waste.
