An exciting opportunity has arisen to develop and deliver prehabilitation and rehabilitation pathways across Barnsley and help thousands of patients across South Yorkshire.

Active Together is a prehabilitation and rehabilitation service supporting people following a cancer diagnosis with physical activity, nutrition, and wellbeing guidance. The service has been designed by Sheffield Hallam University who work in close collaboration with NHS teams to support the delivery and evaluation of the service.

The Active Together service launched in Sheffield in 2022 and is currently expanding to new sites across South Yorkshire in Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster. Active Together South Yorkshire will provide equitable, multi-modal and personalised prehabilitation and rehabilitation support that meets the needs of patients across the region and generates evidence for a commissioned service.

Barnsley Hospital Foundation Trust and Barnsley Premier Leisure are working in partnership to deliver this programme to the population of Barnsley.

Active Together is funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, Yorkshires independent cancer charity, working so more people can live longer, healthier lives, free from cancer.

Main duties of the job

Providing a specialist physiotherapy service within the Active together Barnsley prehabilitation and rehabilitation service in Barnsley.

To design and deliver Prehabilitation and Rehabilitation to patients undergoing cancer treatment and participating in the Active Together programme, in Barnsley.

To assess, diagnose, plan and develop specialised physiotherapy treatment programmes for clients throughout their cancer pathway.

To promote healthy living in patients and support behaviour change.

To supervise / train inexperienced physiotherapists / assistants / students working within the service.

To undertake specialist assessments, treatment and advice to patients with complex presentations and formulate a clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment plan as an autonomous practitioner
