Job summary

An exciting development opportunity has arisen for an experienced band 6 nurse to cover maternity leave and manage and lead Ward 21, our Cardiology and General Medical ward.

As lead nurse they will be expected to support and lead the team and provide continuity in dealing with and overseeing operational nursing issues on a daily basis. They need to have excellent communication and time management skills, to enable them to support and coordinate sufficient patient flow.

Applicants need to be dynamic and innovative with good knowledge of caring for medical patients and the ability to drive forward a team of staff with varying levels of experience, knowledge and skills. The individuals will have excellent interpersonal skills and will also be enthusiastic with a passion and commitment to providing excellent care for our patients, their families and the nursing team. They will need to have a compassionate leadership style that envelopes trust values and will support the health and wellbeing of their staff and patients. They need to have good understanding of clinical governance and audits, experience of working within the multi-disciplinary team and a need to continually improve quality and patient satisfaction. They also need to be able to delegate tasks effectively to enable them to support the ward clinically as well as ensuring that management responsibilities are completed.

Main duties of the job

To provide effective leadership, expertise, advice & support to a ward/department & ensure the provision of the highest quality care to patients and their families.

To ensure the safe, effective and efficient overall management of the ward/department within allocated resources and in accordance with Trust wide Policies and Procedures.

Consistently to maintain and improve patient care and experience.

24 hour continuing responsibility for maintaining a safe environment.

To act as ward department manager with responsibility for determining how objectives set for the service delivery of the ward department will best be achieved.

We are looking for an individual that is enthusiastic and dynamic, who can inspire and motivate an evolving team and facilitate the day to day running of the ward.

They will be expected to promote and monitor a safe and caring environment for patients. It is also essential that they are able to provide professional direction to their team, advocating excellence in clinical practice at all times.

To be successful the applicant will require experience as a Band 6 nurse with proven skills in leadership and recent experience in nursing medical and cardiology patients would be desirable, but not essential.

The role will be fixed term for 12 months to cover the current lead nurses maternity leave.
