This
is an exciting opportunity for an experienced dermatology nurse specialist to
join the team at Barnsley.
The
post holder will be able to demonstrate a breadth of knowledge of dermatology
nursing, providing clinical and educational support to the team to enable the
delivery of high quality evidence based individualised care for patients with
all types of dermatological problems. The post holder will be responsible for
managing and providing a specialist service for patients with acute and chronic
skin disease and those requiring biologics therapy and systemic drug therapy.
This entails managing a high clinical workload and provide clinical, social and
psychological support to the patients enabling them through education and
health promotion to reach their optimum level of independence and health.
Main duties of the job
Request, review, interpret and act upon diagnostic investigations and
point of care testing which may affect change to individual care plans,
liaising with appropriate medical staff where necessary.
Work as an independent non-medical prescriber within Dermatology taking
responsibility for prescribing a range of drugs within area of competence in
accordance with MYHT medicines management policy and BNF.
Demonstrate understanding of the Dermatological conditions which may
need treatment with Systemic/Biologic medications.
Demonstrate knowledge of the drugs used in treatment, licensing status,
dosages, frequency, routes of administration and contraindications as well as
side effects.
Knowledge of pre-screening investigations required before commencing on
any systemic treatments and how to interpret and manage findings throughout
treatment.
Knowledge of National, Nice and B.A.D guidelines in relation to dermatological
conditions requiring systemic treatment.
Provide nurse led drug monitoring clinics for a variety of different
biologic and systemic medications as well as nurse led Isotretinoin clinics for
the treatment of acne.
Be able to initiate
patients on Biologic and systemic medications specified by Consultant/referring
doctor, once all pre checks have been completed.
