An excellent opportunity has arisen for a positive and flexible team player to work in our very busy Diabetic Eye Screening department for Barnsley and Rotherham. The programme offers diabetic eye screening to over 41,000 people with diabetes in the Barnsley and Rotherham area.

We are looking for an individual with excellent communication skills, computer literate and logical thinking you will be well motivated and have a patient centred approach to continue and maintain the reputation of the diabetic eye screening service.

The post holder will to be a primary and secondary grader of retinal images with in a Diabetic eye screening setting They will need to be able to use a slit lamp to review the retina or willing be willing to learn this skill and undertake formal training. The post holder will be willing to undertake training to review and grade Optical coherence tomography (OCT) following national guidelines. The post holder will need to have undertaken the Health Screeners diploma and they will need to have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work use.

Main duties of the job

As a Slit Lamp Biomicroscopy Technician and Grader you will be screening patients independently. This includes instilling eye drops, taking retinal photographs and reviewing patient on a slit lamp and independently grading the retina, The post holder will undertake virtual clinics where they will be reviewing retinal images and identifying retinopathy and provide the images with a retinopathy grade including undertaking higher level grading in conjunction with the Ophthalmology lead and Lead nurse/Programme manager. The post holder will also review OCT scans providing an outcome grade. The Diabetic eye screening service will follow national guidance to meet targets and service requirements. You will undertake clinics in a various location across Barnsley and Rotherham. You will have to have use of your own vehicle for work use.
