Hospital Emergency Department (ED) before on the hit TV documentary show
Casualty 24/7. The Channel 5 series was filmed inside the department and followed
patients, staff and volunteers. Its still on TV and wins legions of fans with
its heart-warming stories.
Now an
exciting opportunity has arisen for us to grow our team of Advanced Clinical
Practitioners within Barnsley Hospital Emergency Department.
We see in excess of 101,000
people a year, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, working closely with other
acute trusts in South Yorkshire.
We are looking for ACPs with a
desire to deliver high quality patient centred care, and the ability to lead
effective and efficient Urgent and Emergency Care. You will be a integral part
of the multidisciplinary team, assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with
a range of emergency conditions. You will be driven and motivated, and be able
to demonstrate a kind and compassionate attitude. In return, you will find at

Main duties of the job
Clinical
Care
- Perform thorough
assessments, including detailed history-taking, physical examinations, and
interpretation of diagnostic tests.
- Diagnose, manage, and treat
a broad spectrum of emergency presentations, from minor to acute
illnesses.
- Formulate, implement, and
evaluate individualised management plans, including admission, referral,
or safe discharge.
- Prescribe medications, order
investigations, and perform advanced procedures within the scope of
practice.
- Prioritise care based on
clinical need and manage complex cases, ensuring appropriate escalation
when required.
Leadership and Education
- Act as a clinical leader
within the ED, supporting and mentoring colleagues across the multidisciplinary
team.
- Provide education and
supervision for junior staff, trainee ACPs, and other learners within the
department.
- Advocate for evidence-based
practice and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and
protocols.
Operational Support
- Work collaboratively with
the ED team to enhance patient flow and reduce waiting times.
- Support the delivery of
high-quality care while maintaining efficiency in a busy, dynamic
environment.
Quality Improvement and Research
- Participate in audits,
service evaluations, and quality improvement projects to improve patient
outcomes and streamline processes within the ED.
- Contribute to or lead
research initiatives related to emergency care.
