Job summary

We have a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced Operating Department Practitioner to join our team of Intensive Care and theatre ODPs. The successful post holder will initiate and contribute to the care provision of the critically ill patient, within the general adult Intensive Care unit, as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring a high standard of care and quality service is delivered within a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors alike.

Within this role you will also cover the satellite ODP theatre areas and provide support for the acute response team. This post would be ideal for someone with a keen interest in medical, non-medical and simulation training, as you will work closely with our education team and provide two days a month supporting training with the medical education team.

We currently provide 13 Intensive care beds in our new purpose built and state of the art ICU. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward-thinking individual, who is looking to further develop existing skills in this environment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in collaboration with the lead nurse and Intensivists within the critical care setting

Attend the morning handover and liaise with the medics and nurse in charge regarding interventions and movement of patient

The preparation and setting up of Ventilators/CPAP equipment for usage

The post holder will work under the guidance and supervision of the ICU Band 7 nursing staff but will work with the coordinator in charge of the shift to support the planned procedures for patients.

The post holder will be responsible for the medical devices within the critical care setting, ensuring a comprehensive inventory of equipment is kept.

The post holder will provide support and expert knowledge and skills in the use and evaluation of specialist equipment in the Critical care setting.

The post holder will promote an effective learning environment for medical devices for nurses and doctors in the critical care unit.

The post holder will deliver / organise training/ updates for medical devices for the nursing and medical staff.

The post holder will maintain links, and work in co-operation with their medical devices representatives/ educators.

The post holder will be aware of when equipment requires updating, and be actively involved in trialing new equipment following evidenced based research.
