Job summary
To contribute and advise on the development and implementation of local health improvement programmes relating to Breast imaging including the analysis of data.
To liaise directly with external agencies on Public Health developments in order to influence agencies to address health inequalities.
To organize and lead on health improvement events relating to breast care.
To undertake family history / post treatment and screening mammograms and work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of an effective breast imaging service. Mammograms should be performed adhering to the standards of the National Health Breast Screening Programme.
To perform extra views (Magnification, paddle, lateral, extended CC) and adapted technique under indirect supervision within assessment clinics (or otherwise) by instruction of the Responsible Assessor or clinician in charge.
To liaise with surgical team and Consultant Radiologist / Advanced Practitioners in order to produce a diagnostic specimen x-ray image adhering to departmental protocol.
Participate in the departmental Quality Assurance Programme, ensuring compliance at all times and that anomalies or equipment faults are reported to a senior member of staff at the earliest opportunity.
To assist Radiologist and/or Advanced Practitioner in interventional and radiographic procedures performed within the breast imaging department and provide aftercare to patients where appropriate.
Main duties of the job
To perform routine mammographic studies (screening and post treatment / family history) adhering to departmental protocols and guidelines adapting techniques as required appropriate to patient condition and age.
To perform extra views (Magnification, paddle, lateral, extended CC) and adapted technique under indirect supervision within assessment clinics (or otherwise) by instruction of the Responsible Assessor or clinician in charge.
To assess the ladies level of co-operation prior to performing the mammographic procedure seeking guidance as required from the supervising radiographer.
To provide the patient with a full explanation of the radiographic procedure prior to the examination commencing.
To ensure the highest possible standards of patient care are maintained at all times.
To perform post clip insertion films.
To assess the patients clinical need and level of co-operation prior to performing radiographic procedures to ensure the highest possible diagnostic image is produced at first attempt to minimise radiation risk to the patient.
To work without direct supervision.
To assist in the care of patients which will frequently include moving / handling and supporting patients, escorting patients and relatives, explaining and assisting with dressing / undressing requirements. This may require the removal and storage of patients possessions whilst they are having their examinations.
