Job summary

We are looking for dynamic and flexible Health Care Assistants to join our inpatient Elderly Care Ward. Due to the opening of two new wards within Barnsley Hospital, multiple positions are now available on W30 Frailty.

We are interested in hearing from compassionate, caring and confident individuals that are both professional and reliable. The role of the health care assistant is imperative to the health and well-being of our patients, as you will support them with their activities of daily living and support the Registered Nursing team with your additional clinical skills.

The successful candidates will need to have excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for caring for older people. Applicants must have also completed their Care Certificate and have experience of working within an acute hospital setting.

If successful, you will be supported to gain competencies in Clinical Observations, Blood Glucose Monitoring, Venepuncture, Cannulation and ECGs. You will be equipped to provide compassionate, safe and high-quality care and support to our patients and their relatives.

Main duties of the job

You will working under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, knowing what is expected of you, not working outside of your role, following reasonable requests and instructions within your work which may include chaperone of patients, transfer of goods and equipment between departments.

You will work within agreed competencies and boundaries for example not undertaking tasks that are not expected within the role you are employed for and keeping up to date with training required to fulfil your role. This will include as a minimum annual assessment of the postholders competency in any task performed and in line with service needs.

You will undertake a range of clinical and non-clinical care duties as requested and reporting findings/outputs to the accountable registered professional for example reporting to the Registered professional the condition of a patients skin following bathing, being mindful of how communication can be used to reduce conflict. Completes patient documentation as appropriate.

You should treating patients and colleagues as individuals respecting the values and behaviours of the Trust for example treat others as you expect to be treated yourself.

Understand how to report an incident or near miss, safe practice with the use of any equipment in your role including movement and handling of patients.
