An exciting
opportunity has arisen and we are looking to recruit Hospital Chaplain to join
the Trust Chaplaincy team. We are looking for an applicant who is kind,
compassionate, of good standing within their faith or belief community and who
is enthusiastic about delivering pastoral, spiritual and religious care across
our Trust. You will be working with patients, their relatives and friends, staff,
volunteers and students, whatever their cultural and faith tradition, for the
purpose of pastoral, spiritual and religious care.
This role is demanding and the
successful candidate will need to be emotionally intelligent and able to work
within clear boundaries so as to be able to manage difficult situations whilst
acting as a reflective practitioner so previous pastoral experience is
essential. We are looking for someone who understands the complexities of
working in a team and will enjoy the challenges of Chaplaincy in an acute
hospital. The
post holder must be an accredited member of UKBHC or be eligible for
membership.
Main duties of the job
Duties and responsibilities will
involve:
Ensure good
communication and collaboration with all members of the Chaplaincy Department.
Respond to referral by
assessing the pastoral, spiritual and religious needs.
To visit patients that have
been referred to the Chaplaincy team and to be able to connect with patients,
staff or relatives throughout the hospital, who require support or listening
ear.
To be able to respond
appropriately to people in intense emotional situations, whether they have a
specific faith or not.
Maintain
confidentiality and obtain informed consent.
Assist in the planning of the
work of Chaplaincy Volunteers.
Participate in particular
projects and operational groups as directed by the Lead Chaplain.
To plan and conduct
appropriate services such as emergency baptism and blessing services for
stillborn and miscarried babies, adult and baby funerals, bedside communion and
supporting families whose relatives are dying.
Provide support for staff:
Model working relationships
that respect the integrity of others.
Schedule time for staff
support.
Assess and respond to staff
pastoral and spiritual needs.
Respect confidence in
responding to requests for personal support from members of staff and
volunteers.
Providing training and
education:
Identify the learning needs of
self and others.
Contribute to the planning and
delivery of learning opportunities.
Contribute to the selection,
training and supervision of Trust Chaplaincy Volunteers.
