Applications are invited for a Locally Employed Doctor (FY2 /CT1 Level) post to join ourGeneral Surgery department here at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This post is ideally suited for doctors who have an interest in all aspects of General Surgery.

The post is available immediately and the successful candidate will be appointed on a fixed term contract until 31 March 2026.

Although this post does not have Deanery approval for training purposes, recognised training will be provided. Barnsley is an Associated Teaching Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will work primarily for one of the consultant teams and will take part in the Junior level full shift rota. On call commitments are supervised by a middle grade doctor and consultant. The doctor will be responsible for the routine pre and post-operative care of all patients admitted. Supervision is provided by a registrar level middle grade and consultant.

The successful applicants will be expected:

a)To attend formal ward rounds and out-patient clinics

b)To attend such other ward rounds, visits to individual patients, as may be necessary

c)To arrange and assist special examinations as may be necessary

d)To keep such records as may be required for medical and/or administrative reasons.

e)To communicate fully (subject to the overriding factors of confidentiality and the patients interests) with patients, their relatives, family doctors and other Health and Social Service colleagues.

f)To perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, at the request of the appropriate consultant or clinical director, in consultation where possible with colleagues both senior and junior. Additional commitments arising under this paragraph are exceptional; in particular, the doctor will not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

g)To attend local teaching/educational activities such as radiology seminars, journal clubs and audit meetings. This is a contractual obligation.
