Job summary

We are delighted to offer a one-year fixed-term or secondment opportunity for a Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within our Head & Neck Cancer and Voice Outpatients Service, covering maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for an established Band 7, or a highly experienced Band 6 ready to progress, to further develop advanced clinical, leadership and service development skills within a specialist and supportive environment.

You will provide clinical and professional leadership across Head & Neck Oncology and Voice outpatient services, working with adults and children with voice difficulties, adults with dysphagia of ENT origin, and patients with head and neck cancer.

A key aspect of the role is to develop, deliver and contribute to training and support for other professionals working with this client group, enhancing multidisciplinary knowledge and skills across the service.

The role includes line management and supervision of staff, leadership of service development and quality improvement initiatives, and close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent, patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

To provide a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service at Barnsley Hospital for adults and children with voice disorders, adults with dysphagia of ENT origin, and adults with head and neck cancer. This involves delivering advanced assessment, diagnosis and management, including responsibility for this complex specialist caseload. This role is primarily supporting patients in an outpatient setting, but will also include clinical highly specialist support for the acute inpatient service.

- Contribute to the development and delivery of training, education and professional support for colleagues and other professionals, and to the evaluation and development of the Speech and Language Therapy service through audit, outcome measurement and evidence-based service improvement, in line with Trust policies and procedures.

- To lead and supervise members of the SLT team (and SLT students) in their development of knowledge and skills in relation to voice, dysphagia from an ENT origin and head and neck cancer.
