We are looking for a highly skilled, experienced, motivated and enthusiastic staff member to work in Cancer Services Head and Neck Team at Barnsley Hospital as a permanent Macmillan Cancer Support Worker.
The CSW will conduct electronic holistic needs assessment (eHNA) and navigation for these patients, and will in some cases need to sign post to our community co-workers and other services that will best support our patients.
We are looking for an individual with experience and knowledge around cancer needs and who can demonstrate career experience at Band 3 / 4. Ideally, the person should have a background which reflects high levels of practice around the Head and Neck remit, with some degree of knowledge and or skills working with patients whom are neck breathers. Plus, the ability to work with others to communicate effectively at all levels.
Whilst being an essential team player and bridging services, you will be required to be self-motivated and able to prioritise you own needs and time to coordinate care with others.

Main duties of the job
This person needs to be able to work independently as well as working effectively within a busy clinical team to provide high quality patient care to people who are diagnosed with cancer.
This person should have excellent communication skills to enable them to complete Holistic Needs Assessments (HNAs) and to understand what matters to the patient. The successful candidate will professionally signpost patients to other agencies outside of the hospital as well as supporting the patient throughout their cancer journey.
Be able to/learn how to assist the CNS team supporting laryngectomy and tracheostomy patients as inpatients/outpatients.
Will use active listening skills, show compassion and empathy towards the patients and their family / carer.
With complex patients it is vital that you understand your own limitations and respect professional boundaries.
A brief outline of the duties include:
Always maintain a high standard of work.
Complete individual holistic needs assessments for patients who are diagnosed with cancer.
Important to make sure that patients receive individualised personal care that suits there needs, asking the question what matters to them.
Be patient and compassionate to our patients and their families and carers.
Be able to solve problems and go the extra mile for people diagnosed with cancer.
Be helpful and a team player when working within the cancer clinical teams.
Have a knowledge of Treatment Summaries and Risk Stratified Pathways.
