Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our established Homecare and High Cost Drugs team within the pharmacy department. You will work with the Specialist Technician for Homecare and High Cost Drugs to ensure the effective management of homecare services for patients on long term treatments.
With over 1,400 patients receiving medication through the homecare service you will be directly involved in the supply and management of their care. The post holder will be responsible for the prescription management for patients. This will include the requesting of new prescriptions from clinics, the processing of prescriptions once received in pharmacy and the distribution of them to the correct Homecare provider.
Other duties will include answering telephone calls and emails from clinic, patients and providers. The post holder will also be expected to work with the finance teams to ensure that invoices are processed in a timely manner.
The post holder will develop a close working relationship with patients, homecare providers and clinics.
With a current establishment of over 100 members across multiple clinical areas, our aim is to provide Pharmacy services close to patients and make the best use of the skills of our staff, while promoting a patient-focused multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of an efficient and high-quality service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will also participate in weekend, late night and bank holiday rotas working in the hospital inpatient pharmacy.
The postholder will assist in coordinating the safe and efficient supply of medicines to patients via the homecare services, including administration of prescriptions, raising purchase orders for homecare medications and management of subsequent invoices, ensuring a continuous supply of medication to our patients.
Other duties will include communicating directly with specialist clinical teams or homecare company representatives on medication related issues or to resolve patient queries.
To assist in the preparation of financial and quality reports and provide administrative support for both the team and the Homecare Governance Group.
The postholder will also take part in wider departmental rotas for covering late nights, weekends and bank holidays in the dispensary.
The ideal candidate will have good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and hold an NVQ 2 in Pharmacy Services, or equivalent (or be working towards this qualification). Experience and knowledge of the homecare service is desirable but not essential.
