Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at Barnsley Hospital, Elective Orthopaedic unit.

The unit has 12 protected beds for elective orthopaedic procedures, delivering care to patients ranging from day cases to major joint replacement surgeries. With significant delays in elective surgery as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, our service is recovering to combat the long waiting lists. We are looking to develop our service to achieve 24-hour discharge in hip and knee replacements. So, we are seeking someone passionate and enthusiastic. The role of a Ward clerk is an important and integral part of the team, and the post holder must be willing and able to act on their own initiative and organise their workload effectively and efficiently. Provide support to the Ward staff, ensuring all aspects of the clerical and administrative duties for the patients on the Ward are dealt with.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to collect and prepare notes for booked theatre patients, ensuring notes are complete with the relevant documentation, to assist clinical staff.

To maintain confidentiality at all times.

To maintain and update case notes, including filing.

To return notes once patient has been discharged and notes have been coded to relevant location, ensuring all papers are securely filed within case notes.

To return appropriate case notes to Medical records promptly

To answer routine telephone enquiries for the ward

To arrange outpatient appointments as requested by nursing team.

To manage and maintain the stationery store in an orderly manner.

To undertake any other duties consistent with the grade.

To attend all annual mandatory training.
