This role is a fantastic opportunity for apprentices who are currently studying for NVQ Level 2/3, apprentices should note that the salary would be Agenda for Change Annex 21 trainee rate (75%max of band) until they have completed their apprenticeship.

Ward 33 are looking for a friendly, efficient and reliable Ward Clerk to join our busy Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at Barnsley Hospital. As a Ward Clerk, youll be the first point of contact on the ward providing vital administrative support to ensure the smooth running of patient care. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team.

Were looking for:

Previous experience in an administrative, receptionist or ward-based role (NHS experience desirable).

Good IT skills and confidence in using systems such as Microsoft Office and patient databases.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work well under pressure in a busy hospital environment.

A proactive, organised and compassionate approach to patient care.

Main duties of the job

The successful Ward Clerk will be responsible for:

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records (electronic and paper-based).

Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers using hospital systems.

Ensure timely filing and retrieval of medical notes and other documentation.

Manage ward correspondence including emails, letters, and phone calls.

Arranging follow up appointments for patients as part of the discharge process.

Act as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff on the ward.

Answer telephone and in-person enquiries in a professional and helpful manner.

Direct visitors appropriately and maintain confidentiality at all times.
