2589 - Assistive Technology Clinical Specialist (SLT)

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 12 January 2025

Job summary

The interview date for this role is 29th January 2025.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated, motivated and supportive specialised Assistive Technology (AT) team. Our team has an excellent national and international reputation for quality, innovation and research and development. We deliver regional services for Environmental Controls (EC) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) across the Yorkshire and Humber region and are directly commissioned by NHS England as a specialised service.

This post is for a Speech and Language Therapist to work as an Assistive Technology Clinical Specialist within the team - 2 years fixed term/Secondment opportunity.

We are looking for candidates with experience in AAC assessment and provision but this is also a great opportunity for applicants wishing to apply as a training post (Annex 21 in AfC). As a training post, you would be expected to develop the knowledge, experience and skills in assistive technology required through a period of supported experience in the role. If applying for the training post, please state this clearly on your application.

Our friendly and supportive team is multi disciplinary and consists of Clinical Scientists, Clinical Technologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Administrators. We also rely on working closely with colleagues from teams in local areas across the region.

Main duties of the job

If successful, you will be working across Yorkshire and Humber in assessing the needs of children and adults around the use of communication aids and environmental controls (including computer access). We assess, provide equipment, and provide ongoing support in home, school and care settings. Depending on individual goals we support our clients in the use of specialised AT to enable independent control of their environment for leisure, comfort and security as well as face to face and remote communication.

You will help deliver the high quality services to our clients that they expect. You will be responsible for making recommendations for appropriate equipment provision and will work with in-house technologists and company representatives to ensure this is effectively provided. You will also work with local teams in delivering training and other support.

Access to and use of a car for work is essential and you will be expected to be based from and travel from home for some of the week, where this minimises travel and makes appointments more effective.

If you are highly motivated, a great team player, and passionate about the use of assistive technology and working with people with disabilities then please look at our website and apply!
