Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a 12-month secondment as Lead nurse for an orthopaedic elective unit. This unit as 12 protected beds for elective Orthopaedic procedures only. This is an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to expand their skills further and work closely with the Arthroplasty nurse driving the team forward with the Enhanced Recovery Pathway for Total Hip and Knee arthroplasty surgery.

You will provide effective leadership, expertise, advice and support to a ward team and ensure the provision of the highest quality care to patients and their families. To ensure the safe, effective and efficient overall management of the ward within allocated resources and in accordance with Trust wide Policies and Procedures consistently to maintain and improve patient care and experience. You will have 24 hour continuing responsibility for maintaining a safe environment and as Lead Nurse you will be responsible for determining how objectives are set for the service delivery of the ward will best be achieved.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in close laison with the Matron and the Patient Services Manager as triumvirate working is paramount to drive this service forward

You will be responsibile for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of clinical, professional and managerial standards.

If successful you will need to be able to support good clinical practice, be responsible for the leadership and operational management of the ward in allocating resources ensuring appropriate management of anything that threatens to affect the safety of the environment or to compromise the care of patients.

You will be expected to take a lead in ensuring the quality of service delivered within the sphere of responsibility by managing standard setting, monitoring performance against local and national standards working along side the arthroplasty nurse by promoting Patient related out comes and how we compare with other trusts. Interaction with patients and relatives to obtain feedback is a vital part of this role to help you participate with the Matron to handle, investigate and respond to complaints as appropriate, in a timely manner
