Job summary
Barnsley
NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to work
as a Consultant in Oral Surgery. The post-holder will work with the current
OMFS team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This
is an exciting opportunity for the successful post holder to develop a close
working relationship across Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery and Oral Surgery
within and out with the Trust to deliver effective care for the population of
Barnsley.
This is a full-time post, working
weekday standard day hours providing 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), but the Trust is
happy to consider part time, flexible working arrangements and / or extended
days to deliver a desirable work life balance, support professional goals and
personal development and
job plans will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees.

Main duties of the job
Duties
and Responsibilities
General Oral Surgery clinics
General Anaesthetic theatre working
To actively contribute to the development of OMFS services
To provide advice to dental and medical
practitioners working in the primary care sector
Local Anaesthesia treatment including sedation and
the development of this service
Clinical triage
Patient administration
SPA (1.5 PAs)
Audit and Research opportunities
Contribution to/attendance at monthly clinical
governance meetings
This post holder will not be required to participate
in an on-call rota

- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the Surgery specialty.
- Experience working at Consultant or Specialist level within a multidisciplinary team.
- Minimum 5 years experience working in oral surgery including independent GA working.
- Should have significant minor Surgery procedures experience and any other post graduate qualifications that can advance the department needs would be preferable.
Research, Teaching and Audit
Essential
- ResearchAcademic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications.
- Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
- Experience of participation in regular clinical audit, and ability to organise and present audit
Desirable
- Broad experience of medical research and presentations at national or regional conferences.
- TeachingExperience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
- Appraisal training.
- Experience of supervising research by junior staff.
- Completion of Education Supervisor training.
- Experience of supporting Nursing Staff in development and training.

- Membership in Oral Surgery (MOralSurg) or equivalent.
- Registered with the General Dental Council and hold a Licence to Practise

- Specialist registration for Surgery (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration.
- Diploma in Conscious sedation.
