Job summary

To provide diagnostic support to the ENT Consultants by performing a wide range of routine and non-routine hearing/balance tests to school age children/adults/elderly patients. Interpreting results and report writing as required.

To assess the needs of patients with hearing, vestibular, tinnitus and clarity problems, and to provide appropriate treatment, counseling, advice and instrumentation as required. To provide follow-up support to check on progress and to alter the care plan where needed.

To provide information, counseling and support for hearing impaired patients and their family/carers on a wide range of hearing related issues and to refer on to other professionals when needed.

To offer a high standard of training placement for BSc Audiology students from the Leeds and to comply with the Universitys regulations with regards to Clinical Supervision.

A qualified audiologist with significant post qualification experience, who is able to take further responsibility within the department and to supervise other staff.

Provision of a full range of routine and non-routine audiometric investigations, and a comprehensive hearing aid service to a predominantly adult population.

Be able to undertake specialist audiology support in the areas of tinnitus, advanced hearing aid fitting, vestibular rehabilitation, diagnostic ABR testing, Newborn Hearing Screening and student assessment.

Main duties of the job

Provide complex and non-routine Vestibular Assessment Clinics, comprising comprehensive history taking, which directs the treatment planned. The treatment plan for Vestibular Rehabilitation may include full diagnostic balance testing, balanexercises and counselling/advice to patients experiencing balance disturbances. Be responsible for interpretataion of diagnostic tests,including writing reports and referrals to ENT Consultants and other Health Care professionals, advising on further management. Provide follow-up support to check on progress and to alter the care plan where needed.

To provide specialist support to patients suffering from Tinnitus. Produce treatment plans and follow up patients to ensure maximum effectiveness. To act on own judgement to alter treatment plan of these patients or to refer on for more specialised help if needed. To provide reports on treatment to Consultants and General Practitioners.

Perform specialised appointments for adults who have hearing losses which are complex. This will require a comprehensive history, producing a treatment plan and provision of counselling/advice/instrumentation as required. Be responsible for reports and referrals to other Health Care professionals. Provide follow-up support to check on progress and to alter the care plan where needed. Patients accessing this clinic have very complex hearing/clarity needs and high levels of interpersonal/communication skills are required.
